2018 Queensland XCO MTB State Championships

proudly presented by Ipswich Cycling Club

3 - 4 November 2018

Castle Hill, Blackstone, Ipswich

President's Welcome

Ipswich Cycling Club warmly welcomes you to the 2018 State XCO Championships, Castle Hill, Blackstone, Ipswich.

This year's event will be held over the weekend of November 3-4, to coincide with other state MTB championships.

"Castle Hill" is named after a real castle 'Brynhyfryd' (which is Welsh for 'pleasant hill') built in 1891, a mansion for coal mining magnate Lewis Thomas.

Remnants of the castle are still visible, but the hill is best known for it's raw, natural MTB trails. Castle Hill has a bit of everything including steep climbs, technical and fast descents, and natural rock gardens.

The 2018 course will offer plenty for the climber, but also rewards those with good technical skills. You can view the type of terrain on our promotional video. There will be plenty of time set aside for course practice. Course profiles are found here . Elite riders will perform a start loop as well as the race loop proper.

I'm sure all would agree that the last few state championships have been very well run events, and we welcome riders from further north to venture down to compete. Ipswich is eight hours from Rocky, 12 hours from Mackay and less than a two-hour flight from most other further afield Queensland locations. Ipswich is a one-hour drive from Brisbane airport.

There is plenty of accommodation available in Ipswich, with some options here.
